One need only consult the prefaces of English Bibles to verify the importance of the Masoretic Text (MT). It is no exaggeration to say that the Hebrew Masoretic Text is the most important form of the Old Testament text in existence in the modern world. The fact that the only version of the Hebrew Bible that survived the ancient period is found in this Masoretic Text has weighed heavily on the minds of Christian Bible translators at least since the time of St. For Christians, too, it is obvious that the Hebrew Bible represents the books of that part of their Bible that they call the Old Testament in their original languages (mostly Hebrew, some Aramaic). It is the accepted form of the Bible in contemporary Jewish communities. Medieval manuscripts like the Aleppo, Leningrad or Sassoon Codices are key exemplars of what is called the Masoretic Text, curated by early medieval scholars called the Masoretes. The Hebrew Bible as represented by manuscripts such as the Codex Sassoon is a very important part of the story of how that English Bible got into our hands. An English translation of what? Readers are aware that a very long space of time separates them from the world of the biblical authors. Anyone who wants a copy of the Bible can go to their local bookseller, second-hand bookshop, or online store and be fairly certain to find one.īut what is “the Bible” that most people own? In Australia it is almost certainly a copy of one of the myriad English translations. For some it is a mere relic of the past, for others it is a great work of literature for some an authoritative religious book, for yet others the very words of God. Even if no longer in everyone’s homes in Australia, the Bible remains ubiquitous. It is therefore a premier witness to the form of the Hebrew Bible as it had come together under the curation of scholars of the preceding centuries, who standardised the notation of vowels, punctuation, and so on.Ī deeper reason for public fascination with such a venerable artifact relates to the importance of the Bible in world culture. Unlike another highly valued early Bible of around the same age, the Aleppo Codex, which is missing about a third of its pages - including all of my favourite book, Daniel - the Codex Sassoon is only completely missing a few pages from the beginning of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. It is older than our oldest complete copy of the Hebrew Bible, the Leningrad Codex (1008 CE) by about a century - the exact date of Codex Sassoon is not known, but is usually given as late-ninth or tenth century CE. One answer relates to the status of this codex as a witness to the Hebrew Bible as a complete book, bound together in one volume. What is it about this document that means people are willing to pay such a hefty sum? This is one of the highest prices ever paid for any book. Moses, and donated to the ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv, Israel, where it will be on public display. The Codex Sassoon was purchased by former US ambassador to Romania, Alfred H. The CS Week Expanding Excellence Awards program is designed to recognize and salute excellence and honor outstanding contributions and innovations in utility customer service. The pilot project provided GMP with valuable insight into customer wants and needs, helped define feature and technical requirements, and influenced the roadmap for the current mobile app. that allowed customers with smart meters to track their real-time power usage and control smart devices in their homes from a mobile app. “We appreciate the opportunity to rethink the user experience and create a mobile app designed to truly engage customers.” Released in December 2014, the mobile app builds on the utility’s Smart Home pilot project. “It’s a pleasure to work with a utility that is leading the way in technology and putting the customer at the forefront of its plans,” said Shazir Khan, CEO and President of iFactor. To create the award-winning mobile app, the iFactor and GMP team let design and usability lead the development process. In the next version of the mobile app, GMP plans to add functionality to allow customers to set up recurring payments, manage payment options, view energy generation, and manage smart devices in their homes. Using the app, GMP customers can view their current bill and bill history, make a one-time payment, view energy consumption, and report and view outages in their area. The goals of the mobile app were to create a full-featured tool that provides customers with a complete self-service experience while pushing the limits of design and achieving the “cool” factor. The award was announced April 29 during the CS Week Conference held in Charlotte, N.C., and honors GMP for its customer-centric Emobile app designed and developed by iFactor. There was also a storytelling session, though our daughter didn't want to go and swiftly went back to play. You can look through the windows and ring some of the doorbells, with all kinds of sound effects around. The bairn took a short break from the play structure so we could go round the village, looking at all the wonderfully built clan houses. At the beginning of the session, there wasn't much of a wait, however midway onwards, the wait was between five and 10 minutes. The only thing they remarked on was a long queue to get onto the biggest slide. The other half ventured up now and then on the pretext of checking on her, though I suspect the big kid in him just wanted to have a go. Because the demand is so high, the gouging prices they set don't really matter. Peter and other major flippers deal with the simple laws of supply and demand.Peter said, “I only got thirty-five pairs. A fellow flipper bought 100 pairs of Nike Yeezys, and got a call from Nike. Peter never buys too much product at once.He is in constant communication with other "major flippers" who sell everything from the latest Supreme to the latest Nike drops. With the eBay store, I even pack it and ship it myself,” he said. Here's a breakdown of some of Peter's tactics: “I’ve brought in seven figures a year for the last two years,” Peter said. Unique Hype Collection buys a shitload of Supreme, waits until it's no longer available, and then re-sells it at exorbitant prices. While not necessarily black-market material, this occupies a space in the ubiquitous grey-market, and we imagine that the 30-year-old owner named Peter had good reason to not give his last name or be photographed by the New Yorker when they profiled his business. The business strategy is simple, and one that kids have been employing since the Internet contribute to the proliferation of streetwear in the early 2000s. It's impossible to find using traditional directories, and you won't find this place on Google, but this closet-sized retail space rakes in millions of dollars selling items from Supreme on the second-hand market. Those affected include children of US government employees, the newspaper said. The Austrian capital has seen a number of reports of “Havana Syndrome,” which the CIA officially calls “anomalous health incidents,” in recent months, according to The Washington Post, which first reported the station head’s recall on Thursday. That "flash" epitomized the decade and I've seen no slicker example, no smarter implementation of it than in this little picture here. I'll grant certain persons there being plenty of "flash," (otherwise known as brilliant photography and an energetic soundtrack) but.welcome to the 80's. The infatuation, the sickness that plagues Scott Muller in this film is so clearly, so intensely conveyed through Stewart's meticulous direction (it's his frickin' script) and the thoroughly phenomenal performance of Steven Bauer. That he is capable of such sensitivity, instinct and passion just gives me chills, as said emotions are so pitifully rare in mainstream filmmaking (let's not even discuss the hollow garbage that has risen to the surface in the past decade). In my heart, Douglas Day Stewart is a genius. This had all the makings of a cool little thriller, it just gets more mundane as the film progresses and Bauer is nothing but a miserable child in this movie. It's a cheesiest in a bad way, and thank goodness that the producers had Top Gun around the corner. What's a girl to do? Caruso pops up every now and again, with lots of attitude and the soundtrack crashes in and out one several occasions, which is funny for all the wrong reasons. Plus the fact that the husband does the worst thing imaginable and tries to make a living rather than letting his wife seduce him. Is this really the guy I saw in Scarface? He was amazing in that movie. Yes Bauer has the charisma and the looks, but he is awful as the lead, and his delivery of lines and the way he changes just ruins the whole movie. So its unfortunate that this film for me sunk like a led balloon. Great producers, great musicians doing the score, and just made in the part of the eighties where everything was cool, and everybody lived in excess. This had the makings of a brilliant eighties movie for me. She doesn't know that he has broken into her house and read her diaries, where she has recorded her deepest thoughts and fantasies. John Caruso puts in a disturbing and powerful performance as the drugged-crazed partner who takes matters into his own hands.Ī woman trapped in a boring marriage begins an affair with a handsome man who seems able to read her mind. A sense of compassion is felt for the central character as he strives to live a fantasy of his own making that slowly starts to disintegrate due to his own dark life. The story itself is not wonderfully exciting, but the fantasy of a burglar falling for one of his victims and using his psychological advantage to seduce her is quite interesting. I enjoyed this movie for a number of reasons but most of all, I thought it had a fantastic eighties soundtrack throughout. Inevitably, events catch up with the thief as his partner in crime goes to desperate measures to eliminate this side-distraction. Passing himself off as a Company Director, he slowly seduces the victim and this is facilitated by her failing marriage. After stealing her portrait and personal memoires, he proceeds to "learn" more and more about the victim until he decides to come into personal contact. Instead of throwing in the towel, I fought back to a manageable life through art and entertaining the masses on the various social media platforms. The film tells a story of a burglar who falls in love with one of his victims whilst doing her house one night. The fastest way to stop a tantrum is to give the child what he/she wants. It is easy to get upset when your child is throwing a tantrum, but try to keep yourself calm first before addressing your child’s behavior. This does not mean, however, that you should always give in to every demand behind a tantrum. Children throw tantrums because they want something. How to deal with a temper tantrumĭealing with a temper tantrum is different from dealing with a meltdown. Some strategies would be removing the cause of aggression, providing calming toys and/or activities, and giving your child a safe space where he/she can calm down. The key goal of handling aggression is to ensure the safety of the child and others around him/her. Some children become violent when an object of comfort is taken away from them, or when they are forced into something they do not want to do. Outside of sensory overload that leads to a meltdown, there are other reasons why a child with autism uses aggression. Both a meltdown and a tantrum can involve aggression. Aggressive behavior can be directed to others or oneself. Difference between meltdowns, tantrums, and aggression?Īggression in kids with ASD refers to violent behavior that may include kicking, hitting, throwing objects, punching, and biting.
